How's that New Year's Resolution going?

Exercise routine getting boring? Having problems staying motivated? You wouldn’t want your hard-earned progress to go by the wayside as you lose your passion for working out. Maybe it’s time to shake things up a little.

The same old routines can get stale. Our minds need variety in order to stay engaged in what we’re doing. Consider trying an activity that’s totally new for you. Or ask a trainer for help to design a new plan for accomplishing your fitness goals. Investigate a group fitness class that you’ve had your eye on, and ask a friend to join in, to keep each other motivated. If the problem with your routine is that it’s just not fun anymore, it’s time to change so that you keep a good level of motivation. Take advantage of all of the opportunities to add variety to your routine at one of the local fitness facilities. And don't forget the endless possibilities for outside exercise in these beautiful Montana mountains! Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are all excellent ways to move your body, break your boring gym work-out routine, get fresh air and be with friends and family.

Lastly, studies have shown that people who keep a diet diary lose more weight than people who don’t write down what they eat. Consider keeping a fitness journal alongside your diet diary. Keep to the workout schedule that fits your life, and plan to show up just as you would for any appointment. Always have goals firmly in mind, and have a way to track your progress. Reward yourself for reaching your milestones, but not necessarily with food. And most importantly of all, just get out there and have fun!
